NATURE: MY MOTHER, BUDDY & GUIDEGurpreet Kaur
This Saturday night, as I was rubbing a cream onto my hands after a thorough post-dinner wash, my friend leaned over and asked: Why do women pamper their skin so much? What is the use of one cream for your face and another for your face? There is one for the day, and another for the night. Why all this fuzz when we all know the skin will age as we grow old?
“My dear, I am not trying to build a wall against time,” I told him. “But, like all parts of our body, the skin too needs proper care to be at the best of its health as long as possible. I am helping it glow naturally and make the wrinkles wait for their appearance.”
He didn’t seem convinced, but it got me thinking about my beauty regime. Am I doing enough for my skin and hair? Are they getting adequate care to rectify the tear and wear of my life? But a quick look at the bottles of creams, scrubs and lotions on my table assures me; that you have nature as your partner to help with your beauty care.
Because, there is mango butter in one cream, jojoba oil in another, green tea for my hair and lavender for my face. Nature and its myriad blessings are indeed safeguarding my beauty and wellness.
So, how does a scrub made from organically-sourced jojoba beads become my best bet for a radiant glow? Because they provide highly effective exfoliation without the abrasiveness like other natural or synthetic exfoliants. They are also mild and suitable for all skin types for removing dead cells and toxins. Need another reason to pick that bottle of scrub that also works as a luscious face mask?
Even the toner in my beauty kit is alcohol-free, can you believe it? It is delicate on my skin as it contains Neroli and Mandarin. Any idea what they are? Neroli Essential Oil has superior moisturising benefits and helps with cell regeneration. Combined with Mandarin Hydrosol, the natural extract of Mandarin fruit, and aloe vera, this toner is an all-in solution to soothe the skin. It even has Witch Hazel in it! An extract that acts as an astringent with anti-inflammatory properties.
Essential oils that have risen to fame as the favourite beauty aides of celebrities are essential to my beauty regime too. There is in abundance in my conditioners and face packs and scrubs too. My scalp skin which was once dry and damaged and itchy is not completely healthy and well-nourished. There is no irritation of the skin and my hair has stopped falling like dry leaves! The secret is a combination of essential oils – Patchouli and Lavender. Not just for my hair, these oils can soothe the mind too as the scent is so calming to the senses.
Yes, I have bottles of nature’s goodness to take care of my face and hair. Because I care for myself and I trust nature as my ally in this wellness journey.
